Giuliani on Debt Limit Debate: Dems and GOP Could Learn from JFK and the Gipper

Rudy Giuliani, in an interview with The Daily Caller:

As both parties fight over a debt reduction deal during the debate in Congress over raising the debt ceiling, Giuliani said. “It would be really nice if we could bring back John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan.” 

“Both of them could probably preach some wisdom to both political parties,” he explained. “John F. Kennedy could preach the value of tax cuts to a party that doesn’t seem to understand that, and preach major tax cuts which really worked for Kennedy.” 

“And Reagan could preach the art of the possible, meaning you can’t get everything you want. Try to get 50, 60, 70, 80 percent,” he said. “That would really make Washington work a lot better.”

"We should make the best deal we can make on spending cuts but not put the country into default... It would hurt our party for ten years if we're responsible for that. And beyond poor politics, it would be the wrong thing to do."

Obama, GOP Leaders ‘Acting Like Children’

Giuliani chided President Obama and Congressional Republicans for refusing to compromise in ongoing talks on whether to raise the federal debt limit. Republicans need to accept lower spending cuts and Obama has to give up trying to raise taxes, he said. 

“They’re not acting like adults. They’re acting like children in a playpen who want all the toys to themselves,” said the former mayor.
