Note: President Obama leads 59% to 41% among Montana voters excited about the contest. Romney is ahead 61% to 25% among those who will be voting for the lesser of two evils.

Survey of 500 likely voters was conducted June 18, 2012. The margin of error is +/- 4.5 percentage points.  Results from the poll conducted May 2, 2012 are in curly brackets.  Results from the poll conducted April 2, 2012 are in square brackets.  Results from the poll conducted February 22, 2012 are in parentheses.
Inside the numbers:
Romney leads the president among both male and female voters in the state. He also posts a 15-point lead among voters not affiliated with either of the major political parties.

Fifty percent (50%) see Romney’s track record in business as primarily a reason to vote for him, but 32% see it chiefly as a reason to vote against him.

Forty-one percent (41%) of Montana voters say they agree with Romney on most important issues, while another eight percent (8%) say they agree with him on just about everything. By comparison, 33% agree with Obama on most important issues, with seven percent (7%) more who agree with him on just about everything.

Fifty-six percent (56%) think the president and his Republican challenger disagree on most important issues. Another 33% say they disagree on just about everything.

Only 13% consider Romney and Obama to be the two best candidates running for the presidency.
