Survey of 500 likely voters was conducted July 16-17, 2012. The margin of error is +/- 4.5 percentage points.  Results from the poll conducted June 3, 2012 are in square brackets.  Results from the poll conducted April 23, 2012 are in parentheses.  Results from the poll conducted March 20, 2012 are in curly brackets.  Results from the poll conducted February 21, 2012 are in square brackets.  Results from the poll conducted September 28, 2011 are in parentheses. 

Inside the numbers:
Allen has the support of 84% of Virginia Republicans, while 88% of the state’s Democrats back Kaine. The GOP hopeful holds a four-point lead among voters not affiliated with either party, but 21% of these voters either prefer some other candidate or are undecided.

Twenty-four percent (24%) of all Virginia voters share a very favorable opinion of Allen, but just as many (25%) hold a very unfavorable view of him.

Kaine is regarded very favorably by 22% and very unfavorably by 25%.
